JAMAICA, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute women's track and field team opened its 2026 outdoor season on Saturday with several standout performances at the St. John's University Big Hurt Invite, highlighted by a runner-up finish from sophomore Jordana Halpern (Oceanside, N.Y.).
Halpern delivered the top placement of the day for the Cannoneers, taking second place in the shot put. Her best throw of the afternoon measured 9.55 meters, securing a strong start in her season debut.
On the track, first-year Melis Kavlicoglu (Reno, Nev.) picked up where she left off in the indoor season, earning a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:25.95. She also impressed in the 200-meter dash, finishing seventh in 27.75.
Sophomore Brooke Schreffler (Harrisburg, Pa.) excelled in her outdoor debut in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 18.44 to claim sixth place. Schreffler also competed in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 30.68.
Senior Giovanna Lisa (Reading, Pa.) recorded a seventh-place finish in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:41.93 and also competed in the 400-meter dash (1:14.22).
First-year Sarah Godlewski (Plymouth, Mass.) ran in both the 200-meter (30.77) and 400-meter (1:10.98) dashes. Pratt showed its depth in the 100-meter dash, with first-year Josey Kanach (Washington, D.C.) leading six in the event in 14.32 and junior Kemi Ayeni (Stockbridge, Ga.) finishing in 14.47. First-years Joanna Doyle (Warren, N.H.) posted a time of 15.99, Sonai Castrillo (Pine Hill, N.J.) clocked in at 17.33, Lola Mactavish (Sydney, Australia) in 17.84, and Milla Tenenblat (Hillsborough, Calif.) in 19.83. Senior Kathleen Chen (Livingston, N.J.) opened her track season in the 400-meter dash, completing the race in 1:26.08.
The Cannoneers will travel to Galloway, N.J. on Saturday, April 4 for the Stockton Osprey Open.
