NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — The Pratt Institute women's track and field team tested itself against a formidable field of mostly NCAA Division I competition on Saturday at the Rutgers Relays.Â
On the track, several athletes made their season debuts in new events. First-year Melis Kavlicoglu (Reno, Nev.) ran the 1500 meters, crossing the line in 5:19.39 as the lone Division III competitor in 33rd overall. Sophomore Brooke Schreffler (Harrisburg, Pa.) competed in the 400-meter hurdles for the first time, finishing in 1:22.13.Â
The throwers had a busy day in the field with Hannah Kim (Camas, Wash.) posting a marks of 10.30 meters in the shot put, 33.22 meters in the discus and 27.17 meters in the javelin. Sophomore Jordana Halpern (Oceanside, N.Y.) recording marks of 9.12 meters in the shot put and 31.96 meters in the discus.
The afternoon concluded with a ninth-place finish for Pratt in the 4x400 relay. The quartet of senior Giovanna Lisa (Reading, Pa.), first-year Sonai Castrillo (Pine Hill, N.J.), first-year Sarah Godlewski (Plymouth, Mass.), and Schreffler combined for a time of 4:46.15.
The Cannoneers return to action next weekend hosting their home Pratt Invitational meet and a double dual with Saint Elizabeth University and Lehman College on Saturday, April 18 at Queens College.
