Women's Soccer Downs Penn State Brandywine, 2-0

NEW YORK — The Pratt Institute women's soccer team scored in each half to beat Penn State Brandywine 2-0 on Saturday at Randall's Island Park.

Sophomore forward Chloe Tien (Broomfield, Colo.) opened the scoring in the 8th minute, and senior midfielder Emma Pratt (North Attleboro, Mass.) added a second-half penalty kick as Pratt (3-1-0) improved to 3-1-0 with a win over Penn State Brandywine (1-3-0).

Tien got things started in the 8th minute, poking one in from close range after the Penn State Brandywine defense was unable to clear a ball played into the box.

Pratt controlled play for the remainder of the first half, testing goalkeeper Jasmin Alvarez repeatedly. Junior forward Alyssa Trujillo (Morrison, Colo.) rang a shot off the woodwork in the 31st minute, and Emma Pratt and junior forward Kate Nolan (Perth, Australia) each had multiple looks on goal before the break.

The Cannoneers doubled its lead in the 60th minute when Emma Pratt converted a penalty kick for a 2-0 advantage, capping a stretch of second-half pressure that began with a shot from junior back Kemi Ayeni (Stockbridge, Ga.) moments earlier that caused a handball to lead to the penalty.

Penn State Brandywine had its best chances after that, with Lexi Schlater and Emma Kearns both testing Pratt goalkeeper Savannah Depaz in the second half, but neither shot got past the senior netminder.

Nolan finished with four shots on the afternoon, and Trujillo added three more. Depaz (Chapel Hill, N.C.) made two saves in earning the shutout, going the full 90 minutes. Josey Kanach (Washington, D.C.), Lina Darcy (Newton, Mass.), and Layan Reed (Boca Raton, Fla.) teamed up on the back line to minimize any threat from the Lions as Pratt maintained an 19-5 edge in shots overall, 14-3 on goal, and held a 9-1 edge in corner kicks.

Pratt is back on the pitch on Thursday, Sept. 17, squaring off against Purchase College at 6 p.m. in a scheduled home match at Purchase College.
