NEW YORK — The Pratt Institute men's soccer team fell 3-0 to St. Joseph's University, Brooklyn on Monday at Randall's Island Park.
Pratt (1-2-1) fell behind by two goals within the first 24 minutes and could not recover in the non-conference matchup with Clinton Hill rivals St. Joseph's Brooklyn (1-1-2).
The Bears opened the scoring in the 15th minute on a goal from Matthew Cottone, then doubled its lead in the 24th minute on a strike from Joshua Lucano. The duo would strike again in the 55th minute as Cottone converted a rebound off a save by Hayden Pettit (Houston, Texas) on a Lucano shot to make it 3-0.
After the two early goals, Pratt held St. Joseph's Brooklyn scoreless for roughly the next half hour of play. The Cannoneers found their best stretch of pressure in the final 15 minutes, putting together three corner kicks and three shots on goal, the last coming in the 89th minute when Lucca Novi's attempt was saved by the St. Joseph's Brooklyn goalkeeper.
Bryan Hong-Dominguez (San Diego, Calif.) and Yuming Liang (Beijing, China) each finished with two shots for Pratt, while Novi, Nicco Prada (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and Eero Lane (San Francisco, Calif.) each added one. Pettit made six saves in defeat.
St. Joseph's Brooklyn held a 17-8 edge in shots and a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Pratt wraps up a four-match homestand on Saturday, Sept. 19, hosting another borough foe Brooklyn College at 1 p.m. at the Floyd Bennett Sports Complex (formerly Aviator Sports and Events Center).
