BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute women's volleyball team returned to the win column with a straight-set sweep of York College on Thursday night, taking a 25-9, 25-11, 25-13 victory at the Pratt Institute ARC.
Pratt (5-4) set the tone early in the opening set, pulling away behind three consecutive aces from Kelsy Padilla (Brooklyn, N.Y.). Ahead 18-9, the Cannoneers closed out the frame on a 7-0 run keyed by Angelina Chung (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who served three aces during the stretch before Colleen Russell (Asbury, N.J.) capped the 25-9 win with a kill.
The Cannoneers controlled the final two sets from behind the service line. In the second frame, Chung opened the set with five aces during a 6-0 run, and Eden Shih (Manhattan, N.Y.) followed with back-to-back aces to push the lead to 9-1. Kills from Jamie Shoemake (La Crescenta, Calif.) and Joanna Doyle (Warren, N.H.) helped finish off a 25-11 decision. Pratt never trailed in the third set, using consecutive aces from Aria Lethridge-Gardner (Oakland, Calif.) and a kill by Jordana Halpern (Oceanside, N.Y.) to extend the cushion before Chung served out the final three points of the 25-13 sweep.
Russell paced the Pratt attack with a match-high 10 kills on .368 hitting. Chung led the serving effort with a match-best eight aces. Kathryn Quintiliano (Manassas, Va.) and Shih split setting duties, dishing out nine and seven assists, respectively. Padilla added four aces and four digs, while Zoe Broerman (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Gabriella Prieto (Amityville, N.Y.) chipped in two aces apiece.
Pratt's 26 service aces was the most since the 2019 season and landing 28 in a win over Valley Forge. The Cannoneers hit .161 with 20 kills and held York to 11 total kills.
Widmaelle Drouillard led York (1-5) with four kills and two block assists, while Zia Lefebvre and MaliaJewel Bembry-Morris each added three total blocks for the Cardinals.
Winners of four of their last five, Pratt travels to borough foes Brooklyn College for a tri-match with Stockton University on Saturday, September 26 starting at 10 a.m.
