NEW YORK — The Pratt Institute men's soccer team scored twice in a span of just over three minutes and never trailed in a 2-1 triumph over Brooklyn College in a non-conference matchup on Friday evening at Randall's Island.
The Cannoneers (1-4-2) are now unbeaten over their last two games following their first win in three meetings with their borough rivals.
Dylan Costa opened the scoring in the 21st minute after Omri Hadad dribbled through several Bulldog defenders and poked a pass to an open Costa at the 6-yard-box.
In the 24th minute, Pratt scored from close range again after a free kick played into the box was headed by Paxton Lyman to Griffin Benkovszky for his first goal of the season and the eventual game-winner.
Pratt controlled much of the opening 45 finishing with a 9-4 shot advantage and leading 2-0 at the intermission.
In the second stanza, the Cannoneers had a man sent off in the 64th minute and Brooklyn (1-6) capitalized, scoring in the 71st minute. But Pratt's defense held strong and didn't allow the equalizer with Anil Pugh making four saves to hold on for the win.
Pratt looks to remain unbeaten in three straight matches squaring off with York College in a non-conference road affair on Tuesday, September 24 starting at 3 p.m.
