BRONX, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute men's volleyball team fell in straight sets to Lehman College (25-19, 25-19, 25-23) and dropped a 3-1 decision to conference foes Bryn Athyn College (25-23, 19-25, 25-18, 25-22) in a non-conference tri-match on Saturday.
In their opener with Lehman (1-0), Jason Raymond led the Pratt (0-3) attack with seven kills at a .375 clip and Brooks Reid added a quintet of kils, assists and digs with a trio of aces. The Lightning trailed just once in the opening two frames winning both by a 25-19 margin. The black-and-gold battled in the third and threatened to force an extra set. A Lenard Tolentino ace leveled the set at 23-all – the 11th tie of the set – but Lehman held on taking the next two points for the sweep.
Max Wang slammed a team-high 10 kills on .269 hitting and dished out 13 assists for a double-double as Pratt pushed their United East Conference rivals Bryn Athyn (1-0) to four sets in a non-conference tune-up. Raymond added eight kills while Reid had another strong all-around effort with six kills, 15 assists, five digs and three blocks (all assisted).
Pratt fell behind by as many as six in the first before rallying to take a 19-16 lead. The Lions pulled back even at 20-all and after three more ties, Bryn Athyn took the final two points for a 25-23, victory. The Cannoneers raced out to a 10-5 lead to open the second stanza and never trailed in a 25-19 win to level the match.
After dropping the third set 25-18, Pratt remained within reach in the fourth trying to force a fifth set, and remained within two at 23-21, but couldn't close the gap.
Pratt returns to the ARC for their home opener this Wednesday hosting Manhattanville University in a non-conference match starting at 7 p.m.
