ARLINGTON, Va. — The Pratt Institute women's volleyball team dropped both matches at Saturday's Marymount (Va.) tri-match, falling 25-15, 25-19, 25-9 to the Saints and 25-23, 25-17, 25-13 to Catholic inside Converse Family Fieldhouse.
Colleen Russell (Asbury, N.J.) led the black-and-gold across the day with 15 kills and five total blocks, including three solo against Catholic. Kelsy Padilla (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 15 kills and four aces, and setter Eden Shih (Manhattan, N.Y.) passed out 39 assists.
In the morning Atlantic East contest, Russell posted nine kills on .350 hitting with two blocks, and Joanna Doyle (Warren, N.H.) chipped in six kills. Pratt drew within two midway through the second set on a Padilla service run that featured back-to-back aces, but Marymount answered late with timely serving and middle attacks to take control. Shih finished with 21 assists, and Maggie Hughes (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Jamie Shoemake (La Crescenta, Calif.) each added four and two kills, respectively. The Saints were paced by Elizabeth Stackpole (10 kills, .643) and Johanna Modica (four aces) and totaled 11 service aces.
Pratt started fast against Catholic, opening the first set 3-0 behind Shoemake's ace and Padilla's early swing. The Cannoneers were tied 14-14 after a Hughes kill from Shih and pulled within 22-21 on a Russell attack that forced an error before the Cardinals closed 25-23. Shoemake served four aces and added five kills, Russell hit .455 with three solo blocks, and Padilla tallied six kills and two aces. Doyle finished with five kills, while Shih recorded 18 assists. Catholic hit .356 for the match and leaned on Julia Raab (10 kills, three aces) and Julia Turchiano (eight kills, .727).
Gabriella Prieto (Amityville, N.Y.) anchored the back row with 13 digs on the day, and Kathryn Quintiliano (Manassas, Va.) provided setting support in both matches.
Pratt closed the day with 52 kills, 10 aces and seven team blocks. The Cannoneers face Saint Elizabeth University on Wednesday, Oct. 29 in an Atlantic East tilt in Morristown, N.J. starting at 8 p.m.
