Late Push Falls Short for Women’s Volleyball at Saint Elizabeth

MORRISTOWN, N.J. — The Pratt Institute women's volleyball team dropped a four-set Atlantic East Conference decision at Saint Elizabeth University, 25-17, 25-16, 21-25, 25-22, on Wednesday night at St. Joseph's Hall.

Pratt (3-16, 0-4) found its groove at the net and at the line, finishing with nine total blocks and eight aces. Joanna Doyle (Warren, N.H.) led the Cannoneers with six kills and a match-best seven total blocks, while Maggie Hughes (Knoxville, Tenn.) posted seven kills, two aces, 10 digs and five blocks.

After the Eagles (9-14, 2-3) took the opening frames behind a hot serve, the black-and-gold answered in the third. Hughes' ace and a Doyle-Hughes stuff keyed a mid-set run to 20-18, and Colleen Russell (Asbury, N.J.) slammed the clincher off a feed from Eden Shih (Manhattan, N.Y.) for 25-21. Pratt carried that momentum into the fourth, pulling even at 22-22 on a Kelsy Padilla (Brooklyn, N.Y.) kill before Saint Elizabeth closed the match.

Padilla paced the attack with 10 kills and five digs. Russell added six kills, two aces and nine digs, and Eden Shih (Manhattan, N.Y.) distributed 25 assists with seven digs and an ace. Jamie Shoemake (La Crescenta, Calif.) served two early aces and finished with 12 digs, while libero Gabriella Prieto (Amityville, N.Y.) collected seven digs. Kathryn Quintiliano (Manassas, Va.) chipped in an ace off the bench.

Saint Elizabeth was led by Marissa Heimbaugh's 13 kills, six aces and 16 digs. Sienna Volpe added nine kills and 10 digs, and Mia Gonzales put down eight kills.

Pratt returns home Saturday, Nov. 1, to host Marywood in an Atlantic East contest at 1 p.m. at the ARC.
