Men’s Volleyball Extends Streak to Three With Five-Set Triumph Over Old Westbury

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — Powered by a trio of double-doubles, the Pratt Institute men's volleyball team secured a 3-2 non-conference road win over SUNY Old Westbury on Thursday evening.

Pratt wins their third straight match by set scores of 25-27, 25-20, 25-23, 16-25, 15-11 improves to 3-4 overall. Max Wang led all attackers with a 16-kill, 21-dig double-double. Brooks Reid also finished with a double-double with 12 kills and 20 digs and Nathan Kim handed out 33 assists with 23 digs. Jason Raymond rounded out three Cannoneers with double-digit kills with 10 and eight digs.

Old Westbury (0-4) rallied to win a close opening set that saw 15 ties and six lead changes, Pratt held on to a 20-16 lead and had set point at 24-23, but the Panthers fought it off and converted on their second set point for the win.

Pratt won the first three points of set two and the first seven points of set three and never trailed to take a 2-1 lead. Both teams remained close throughout the early parts of the fourth before Old Westbury used a 7-1 run to take the lead for good and closed out the set on a 10-2 spurt.

In the deciding set, Pratt never trailed but it remained close as both teams were tied five times and as late as 8-all after the Cannoneers built a mini 7-4 lead. The Cannoneers then used a 5-1 run to pull away to 13-9 and a Wang kill on match point clinched it for the black-and-gold.

Damien Villamill led Old Westbury with a 14-kill, 19-dig double-double. Liam Eisel had 12 kills and nine digs.

Pratt returns to the ARC to host Regis College on Sunday, February 16 in a non-conference match starting at noon.
