Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Yeshiva

NEW YORK — Led by a career- and match-high 16 kills from Brooks Reid, the Pratt Institute men's volleyball team collected a straight-set (25-22, 25-22, 25-22) non-conference victory over Yeshiva University on Tuesday evening.

With the victory, Pratt wins their fourth match in five tries to pull within one game of .500 at 4-5, while Yeshiva falls to 1-6.

Reid hit .150 for the match and also brought up seven digs and served a pair of aces. Jason Raymond put away nine kills on .148 hitting and brought up five digs with a solo block. Devaun Longley added four kills on .600 hitting. Nathan Kim dished out 27 assists with pairs of kills, aces and digs.

Pratt built a seven-point lead early in the opening set but saw the Maccabees draw even at 19-all and the teams were level two more times at 20-all and 21-all before Pratt closed out the set on a 4-1 run clinched by a Raymond kill.

A close second stanza saw eight ties and two lead changes and neither team ahead by more than three points until Pratt won three straight points at 21-19 for five set points and another Raymond kill closing out the frame.

Pratt used a 5-1 spurt midway through the third to build a 16-11 advantage. The Cannoneers saw a lead that grew as large as seven cut down to two but held off a late comeback bid by the Macabees to force an extra set.

Massino Bertini led Yeshiva with seven kills on a .316 hitting effort. Pratt finished with a 35-16 edge in kills and 9-3 advantage in aces.

Pratt returns to the ARC and tries to level their record hosting the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Thursday, February 20 in a non-conference match starting at 7 p.m.
