Men’s Volleyball Stumbles at Home to Mount Saint Vincent

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute men's volleyball team suffered a straight-set defeat (25-22, 25-19, 27-25) to the University of Mount Saint Vincent in a non-conference match at the Activity Resource Center on Thursday evening.

Jason Raymond shared match-high honors with 10 kills on a .444 hitting effort with one ace and two blocks. Brooks Reid added six kills and five digs. Max Wang and Wallace Hallot added five kills apiece with Hallot serving three aces and Wang serving up a pair. Nathan Kim dished out 20 assists.

Pratt (4-6) held a slight lead throughout the first half of the opening set, pulling away by as many as four. The Cannoneers crept out to a 20-18 lead before UMSV (1-6) came alive late and closed out the frame on a 7-2 run to steal the set. The Dolphins carried the momentum into the second and raced out to a 7-2 lead and never trailed again.

A back-and-forth third stanza saw 15 ties and seven lead changes with Pratt using a 6-0 spurt to build a 15-9 lead, but the Dolphins drew even at 20-all. Pratt earned a pair of set points at 24-23 and 25-24, but couldn't convert and UMSV rallied for three straight to close out the match.

Tyler Hanna led UMSV to their first win of the season putting down 10 kills on .600 hitting and Olatomiwa Ibitayo added eight kills at a .538 clip.

Pratt continues a four-match homestand at the ARC on Tuesday, February 25, welcoming borough rivals Medgar Evers College for a non-conference match starting at 7 p.m.
