Men’s Volleyball Fends Off Seven Set Points in Four-Set Triumph Over York

JAMAICA, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute men's volleyball team collected their first victory of the 2025 season defeating York College (NY) in four sets, 17-25, 25-23, 29-27, 27-25, in a non-conference road test on Tuesday evening.

Jason Raymond led the Cannoneers (1-4) with 17 kills on a .262 hitting effort with two aces and two digs. Brooks Reid slamed 12 kills and brought up seven digs. Max Wang fell one kill shy of a double with nine kills and a game-high 11 digs with four aces. Nathan Kim directed the attack with 30 assists, also falling one dig shy of a double-double with nine.

Pratt got off to a slow start as York built an early 9-4 lead that they wouldn't relinquish in the opening set. But the black-and-gold rallied to take the next three sets in a highly-contested affair that saw 31 ties and 16 lead changes and the third and fourth sets going to extra points.

In the second stanza, York clung to a 22-20 lead before the Cannoneers closed out the set on a 5-1 run capped by a Raymond kill to level the match. In the third, Pratt erased three set points down 24-21 and wiped out two more set points at 26-25 and 27-26 before stunning the Cardinals with three straight points and a Wang ace giving Pratt a 2-1 set lead.

In the fourth, York led by as many as seven at 14-7 before Pratt leveled the set at 17-all. The Cannoneers erased two more set points down 24-22 and later converted on their second match point to secure the win.

Sebastian Gomez paced York with a match-high 19 kills and David Heyliger, Jr. added 14 kills and nine digs. Stanley Sanchez handed out 39 assists for York who fell to 1-2.

Pratt returns to the ARC to host City College of New York on Thursday, February 6 at 7 p.m.
