BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute men's volleyball team rallied to lead after three sets, but fell on the wrong end of a five-set decision (25-13, 21-25, 24-26, 25-20, 15-7) to Bryn Athyn College on Wednesday evening in United East Conference play at the Activity Resource Center.
Max Wang led the Cannoneers with 11 kills and 14 digs for a double-double and Brooks Reid also turned in a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Jason Raymond fell one kill shy of reaching double figures with nine and brought up seven digs and stuffed three blocks (one solo).
Nathan Kim directed the offense handing out 34 assists. Jude Fox brought up a team-high 15 digs. Micah-Jude Upshaw and Wallace Hallot both chipped in five kills apiece and five block assists, Upshaw also stuffing a solo block.
Bryn Athyn (7-10, 1-0) cruised through the opening set building a 13-6 lead and never letting Pratt (6-7, 0-1) back into the frame.
The Cannoneers never trailed in set two and led by as many as five at 19-14 before the Lions pulled even at 21-all, but Pratt closed out the frame winning four straight points to level the match.
Pratt raced out to a 6-1 lead in the third but couldn't keep away as the Lions won seven straight and both teams remained in a battle the rest of the way with 13 ties and six lead changes. Neither side pulled ahead by more than two until the yellow-and-black earned three set points at 24-21, but Pratt held on to win in extra points on a Wang kill.
Bryn Athyn hit a combined .315 with 24 kills over the final two frames and never trailed after taking early leads to complete the comeback.
Miles Shepard had a 24-kill, 13-dig double-double and Bryan Choute added 22 kills with three aces to lead the Lions.
After four straight in the comforts of the ARC, Pratt travels to Neumann University on Saturday, March 8 for a 1 pm United East match starting at 1 p.m.
