ALBANY, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat at Russell Sage College on Monday afternoon, concluding the opening weekend with a pair of hard-fought, one-goal losses.
In an evenly matched first half, both teams remained deadlocked throughout nearly the entire period before Anthony Geis found the back of the net in the 40th minute, which would stand as the game-winner and the lone goal of the contest.
Pratt (0-2) would finish with a slight 7-6 edge in the first half, but saw their opportunities to equalize limited in the second stanza as their lone shot of the period – off the foot of Alex Abbruzzese – came in the 87th minute. Dimitris Papagiannakopoulos made four saves in the second half to help maintain a one-goal contest.
Omri Hadad finished with three shots while Abbruzzese finished with a pair of shots.
Sage (2-0) ended with a 10-8 shot advantage, including 8-3 shots on goal, and 5-0 in corners.
Pratt returns home to host York College on Saturday, September 6 in their home opener at Randall's Island Field 10 starting at 1:45 p.m.
