NEW YORK — Dylan Costa bagged a first-half brace to give the Pratt Institute men's soccer team a 2-0 lead over visiting York College, but lightning spoiled the Cannoneers' potential first victory of the season in a contest that went unfinished after 45 minutes.
Costa opened the scoring in the 30th minute, booting in a rebound off a shot from Taewan Kim. The junior padded the lead six minutes later with a shot from outside the box that was well placed just inside the post as the keeper watched helplessly.
Lightning approached the area just as the halftime whistle sounded and eventually heavy rains followed and the teams were unable to return to the pitch for the second stanza despite attempting to wait out the storm.
The Cannoneers maintained a 12-1 shot discrepancy at the stoppage. The game is recorded as a no-contest with no effect on either team's record or stats.
Pratt has a week off before returning to Randall's Island to host Bard College on Saturday, September 13 with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
