NEW YORK — First-year Elva Yu (Spring, Texas) of the Pratt Institute women's tennis team has been selected as the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week for matches contested Oct. 5–11.
Yu helped guide Pratt (4-0, 2-0 CUNYAC) to a 7-0 conference road victory over Brooklyn College on Friday, Oct. 9. The rookie yielded just two total games across two matches as the Cannoneers earned their second league win of the fall.
In doubles play, Yu paired with sophomore Olivia Tao (Ann Arbor, Mich.) at the No. 2 flight to earn a 6-1 victory. The win helped Pratt take two of the three doubles flights to secure the doubles point for the Cannoneers.
Yu continued her unblemished afternoon at No. 4 singles. The first-year conceded just one game in the opening set before closing out the second set at love, securing a 6-1, 6-0 straight-set victory.
Pratt continues conference play today against York College in Queens, N.Y. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
