Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Senior Pallavi Verghese (Fayetteville, Ark.) and senior Beatrice Crespo (Kearny, N.J.) of the Pratt Institute women's tennis team competed at the 2026 ITA Northeast Regional Championships on Thursday and Friday, hosted by Skidmore College.
The regional event was highlighted by Verghese's first-round singles upset over a seeded opponent in the main draw of 64 on Friday morning.
Facing top-16 seeded Katelyn Ho of New York University in the opening round of singles, Verghese dropped the first set 6-3 before rebounding to take the second set 6-2. In the decisive 10-point match tiebreak, Verghese edged Ho 10-7 to complete the 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) comeback victory and advance to the round of 32.
Verghese's tournament run came to an end in the round of 32, where she was defeated 6-0, 6-1 by Madison Kirby of Vassar College.
Crespo opened her singles campaign in the main draw against Ava Boncordo of Union College, falling in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Moving into the consolation draw, Crespo responded by picking up an 8-5 pro-set win over Haley Peck of Oneonta State to conclude her singles slate with a victory.
Tournament action began on Thursday afternoon with the doubles draw of 32. Verghese and Crespo paired up as Pratt's lone doubles entry, falling at love to top-8 seeded NYU's Victoria Wang and Vera Bondarenko, who were eventual quarterfinalists.
Pratt resumes dual-match competition and begins City University of New York Athletic Conference action hosting Albertus Magnus College on Sunday, October 4 starting at 12:30 p.m. at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
