GREENVALE, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute equestrian team turned in its strongest finish of the season, placing third at Long Island University's IHSA Show at North Shore Equestrian Center on Sunday.
Pratt picked up two class wins to set the pace at the top and bottom of the order. Co-captain Alin Kutan (Istanbul, Turkey) won Open Equitation over Fences, then added a third-place finish in Open Equitation on the Flat. Sophia Potorti (Brooklyn, N.Y.) closed the day with a blue ribbon in Introductory Equitation.
Co-captain Grace Plunkett (Los Angeles, Calif.) continued a consistent season in Open with a third-place ride over fences and a runner-up finish on the flat. Her third over fences also secured her Regional qualification in that class.
Pratt's middle flights delivered key points to keep the Cannoneers in the top three. Audrey Flatt (Nashville, Tenn.) placed fourth in Intermediate Equitation over Fences, while Kaitlyn McVeigh (San Diego, Calif.) took fourth in Intermediate Equitation on the Flat. Shelby Duerig added a pair of fourth-place finishes in Limit, placing fourth over fences and fourth on the flat.
Addisen Hollon (Santa Ynez, Calif.) also contributed in two sections, finishing second in Pre-Limit Equitation over Fences and third in Limit Equitation on the Flat. In Novice, Aahan Pradhan (Gurgaon, India) placed sixth.
Pratt added more points in Pre-Novice, led by Yagmur Omurluoglu (White Rock, British Columbia, Canada), who finished second. Magia Alcivar (Portoviejo, Ecuador) placed fourth, and Mads Maarbjerg (Silver Spring, Md.) rounded out the division with a sixth-place ride.
With one regular-season show remaining, the Cannoneers sit fifth among the region's 10 colleges. Pratt closes out the regular season next Sunday riding at the Molloy and Adelphi Universities Show at Sagamore Hill Stable.
