Men’s Volleyball Pushes Immaculata to Four

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute men's volleyball team showed its resilience with a strong third-set victory but ultimately fell to Immaculata University in a four-set United East Conference match, 3-1 (25-14, 25-17, 22-25, 25-19), on Saturday afternoon at the ARC.

Pratt (5-12, 2-4 United East) saw two players record double-doubles in the effort, while Immaculata (4-4, 3-0 United East) remained unbeaten in conference play.

Senior Brooks Reid (Winston Salem, N.C.) paced the Cannoneers with a double-double of 10 kills and 10 digs. Setter Nathan Kim (Irvine, Calif.) also posted a double-double with 21 assists and a team-high 10 digs.

Griffin Benkovszky (Ashland, Va.) chipped in seven kills and six digs, while Morvens Regis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added six kills. Arturo Mata (Chicago, Ill.) contributed from the service line with two aces and was a presence at the net with a pair of blocks.

After Immaculata controlled the first two sets, the Cannoneers battled back with a spirited effort in the third. After a 7-7 deadlock, Pratt built as large as a 14-10 lead and remained on top for the rest of the frame, holding off a late surge by the visitors to end the match in three. The fourth set went back and forth for five lead changes, before the Mighty Macs created separation midway through the frame.

Immaculata was led by an impressive all-around performance from Josh McGurl, who finished with a match-high 18 kills, 10 digs, and five blocks. Noah Zunski also recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs, while setter Luke Dortenzo orchestrated the offense with 45 assists and five aces.

The Cannoneers have a short hiatus for spring break before returning to the ARC on Saturday, March 28, to host Wilson College and celebrate Senior Day in another United East matchup. The match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
