HADDONFIELD, N.J. — Junior Pallavi Verghese (Fayetteville, Ark.) of the Pratt Institute women's tennis team was named the Atlantic East Conference Player of the Week for the fifth time this season, the league office announced on Monday.
The accolade marks the seventh weekly conference honor for the Cannoneers this year, punctuating an undefeated regular season that saw the black-and-gold lock up the top seed in the upcoming conference championship,
Verghese guided the team to a 7-0 Senior Day sweep of Marymount University on Saturday. The junior partnered with classmate Beatrice Crespo (Kearny, N.J.) at No. 1 doubles to secure a hard-fought 6-4 victory, finalizing the team doubles sweep.
Transitioning to singles action, Verghese was dominant at the top of the lineup, cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 triumph. The result kept her perfectly unblemished in both singles and doubles play against conference opponents this season.
Having completed an undefeated 10-0 regular season, Pratt now turns its attention to defending its conference title. The Cannoneers will travel to Aston, Pa., to compete in the Atlantic East Championship semifinals on Friday, April 24, at Neumann University, facing No. 4 seed Immaculata University.
