MAMARONECK, N.Y. — Competing in a head-to-head singles match play format for the first time, the Pratt Institute men's golf team dropped a 4-1 decision to SUNY Purchase at Hampshire Country Club.
Sophomore Gauthama Thiruvengadam (Chennai, India) provided the highlight of the day for the Cannoneers on the 6,017-yard layout. Stepping into the second pairing, he jumped out to a 4-up lead through six holes over Joseph Seacord, before securing a 6-and-4 victory to earn a point for the hosts.
Senior Jack Hanan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) made his season debut in the third flight, putting forth a strong effort before yielding a 6-and-5 result to Spencer Wheeler. Competing in the top spot, Anirudh Bharath anchored the squad against Arthur Nelbach, battling through his round in a 6-and-5 setback.
Junior Griffin Benkovszky (Ashland, Va.) and junior Dylan Costa (Cresskill, N.J.) rounded out the lineup for Pratt. Benkovszky navigated the course before conceding 6-and-5 to Isaiah Mishyev, while Costa showed resilience in a 5-and-4 finish against Shannon Herlihy.
The Cannoneers will conclude their inaugural season with one additional match to be announced.
