Verghese Earns Fourth Atlantic East Women’s Tennis Player of the Week Honor

HADDONFIELD, N.J. — Junior Pallavi Verghese (Fayetteville, Ark.) of the Pratt Institute women's tennis team was named the Atlantic East Conference Player of the Week for the fourth time this season, the league office announced on Monday.

Verghese earned the recognition after continuing her dominant season at the top of the lineup, guiding the Cannoneers to their fourth consecutive 7-0 sweep with a home victory over Marywood University on Thursday.

The junior partnered with senior Srishti Agarwal (Gurugram, India) to secure the team doubles point behind a swift 6-1 victory at the No. 1 flight.

Transitioning to singles action, Verghese was the first to finish her match. She cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at the top spot to set the tone for the black-and-gold.

With the performance, Verghese remained unbeaten on the season in conference play and improved her overall record to a 7-1 mark in both singles and doubles. Her efforts at the top of the rotation have helped Pratt maintain a perfect 8-0 overall record, including a 3-0 start in the Atlantic East.

Verghese had previously received the weekly accolade on Sep. 29, Oct. 6 and Mar. 23. The Cannoneers have nabbed the first three Player of the Week awards of the spring season with Agarwal receiving the honor last week.

Pratt takes a break from Atlantic East play to host Baruch College in a non-conference match on April 11 at 4 pm at the USTA National Tennis Center.
