Women’s Tennis Sweeps Atlantic East Major Awards; Six Earn All-Conference Honors

HADDONFIELD, N.J. — The Pratt Institute women's tennis team claimed three major awards and landed six student-athletes on the All-Atlantic East Conference teams following a perfect 12-0 championship season, as the league office announced their year-end awards today.

Junior Pallavi Verghese (Fayetteville, Ark.) was named the Atlantic East Player of the Year. The junior was also a First Team All-Conference selection in both singles and doubles, capping a dominant campaign where she was named the Atlantic East Championship Tournament MVP. Verghese remained unbeaten against conference opponents throughout the year at the top of the lineup.

First-year Judith Song (Sharon, Mass.) secured Atlantic East Rookie of the Year honors. Song made an immediate impact for the black-and-gold, stepping into the upper half of the rotation to earn First Team All-Conference recognition in singles after an 8-1 singles record.

Led by fourth-year head coach Iñigo Torre Martin, Pratt was named Coaching Staff of the Year for the first time. Along with assistant coach Jordan Tsuruta, and volunteer assistants Johnny Xie and Virginia Terry, the quartet guided the Cannoneers to a flawless 12-0 overall record and the program's second consecutive Atlantic East championship without dropping a match against league opposition.

Pratt occupied four of the six available spots on the All-Conference First Team for singles. Joining Verghese and Song were senior Srishti Agarwal (Gurugram, India) and junior Beatrice Crespo (Kearny, N.J.) after unblemished singles records, Agarwal 6-0 and Crespo 8-0.

The Cannoneers also dominated the First Team doubles selections. Verghese earned First Team honors with two different partners, recognized for her success alongside both Agarwal and Crespo at the No. 1 flight.

Junior Satoka Shibasaki (Tokyo, Japan) rounded out the singles honorees for the hosts, landing on the Second Team after a perfect 11-0 mark in the bottom half of the lineup. Song and first-year Olivia Tao (Ann Arbor, Mich.) also garnered Second Team All-Conference accolades for their strong play as a doubles pairing.

Led by the strong play of the All-Conference honorees, the Cannoneers maintained a combined 63-3 record at singles and 31-4 record at doubles.

The All-Conference teams and major awards are voted on by the league's head coaches.
