HADDONFIELD, N.J. — Senior Pallavi Verghese (Fayetteville, Ark.) of the Pratt Institute women's tennis team has been named the Atlantic East Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 14–20.
Verghese led Pratt (2-0) to a 7-0 road shutout of Farmingdale State College on Saturday, securing victories in both top-flight matches.
In doubles play, Verghese teamed with senior Beatrice Crespo (Kearny, N.J.) at the No. 1 position to earn a 6-3 victory. The win secured the doubles point for the Cannoneers after the teams split the other two flights.
Verghese followed with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at No. 1 singles, conceding just two games on the afternoon and clinching the overall team victory for the Cannoneers.
Through two dual matches this fall, Verghese remains undefeated on the season, posting a 2-0 record at No. 1 singles and a 2-0 mark at No. 1 doubles without dropping a set.
Pratt's scheduled CUNYAC opener against York College on Tuesday, September 22 has been postponed. The Cannoneers will now open their CUNYAC slate on Saturday, September 26 at Lehman College starting at noon.
