Pratt Rec Names New Head of Group and Personal Training

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Pratt Institute Associate Director for Recreation and Facilities, Devin Roban, and the Pratt Institute Coordinator of Recreation and Memberships, Jessica Donohue, has announced Carina Strum as the new Head of Group and Personal Training for Pratt Rec.

Sturm brings to the Pratt Institute and Pratt Rec a strong and budding background of expertise in personal training and fitness instruction that adds to the new direction and vision of Pratt Rec on campus, and throughout the community. Holding certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine as well as certified as a functional strength coach, Sturm has various years of experience in personal training, developing long term workout plans, creating and progressing client relations, and offering nutrition, strength and conditioning programs.

Prior to arriving at Pratt, Sturm has experience working within Higher Education and the College Athletics spectrum serving as a Training Assistant at New York University's Varsity Performance Center. At NYU she aided in training varsity athletes by teaching movements and writing programs to boost overall performance. Sturm is excited to bring that knowledge to Pratt as the Institute prepares for NCAA competition beginning September, 1st, 2019.

"I accepted this position as Head of Group and Personal Training because it brought all of my passions into one role. I have experience training beginners and avid weight lifters, elite athletes and those just looking to improve, young and old. My role is not just to teach people how to work out, but to influence and educate people as to how they can live happier, healthier, and more balanced lives through exercise. The Pratt community is a diverse and talented group of people; I already know that. My goal is to educate and connect with everyone in the group classes and individual training sessions that Pratt now offers. I will be the fitness resource to bring this amazing community to the next level with the mental and physical benefits that fitness provides."

"I am very excited about adding Carina to our staff", said Donohue. "Having a forward thinking trainer on staff to help advance our Pratt Rec community will allow for more growth and learning within the walls of the ARC".

"Adding Carina continues to push us forward in our new vision for Pratt Rec as we give our community, mainly our students, an extremely valuable resource to seek out, explore and develop themselves through when it comes to their fitness, mental health, and their overall wellness on campus", said Roban.

Sturm will teach two clinic courses per week that are FREE to students (ONLY) - Intro to the Weight Room and Pro-Active Recovery. For more on personal training courses, packages, rates, and opportunities, please visit HERE.
