ARC Set For Re-Opening

Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Pratt Athletics and Recreation Department announced that the Pratt ARC (Upper Level - Gym) Facility will re-open for active use on Friday, August 16th, 2019.

The re-opening comes almost two and a half months after the home to Pratt Athletics and Recreation closed its doors to undergo major renovations to the forty-plus year old facility. The summer renovation, which started in early 2019 with the installment of an elevator to provide accessibility within the building, is just another phase in a series of many to come to meet the needs of the Pratt Community.

The ARC's fitness center and studio room will remain off limits to active patrons during the re-opening, and will become available to the Pratt Community on Tuesday, August 20th.

Following it's opening, the ARC will operate under summer hours until Monday, August 26th (mon-fri: 6:30am-8pm; sat-sun: 8am-5pm), in which it will resume normal operational hours. All members and patrons of the ARC are encouraged to use the activity area calendar to view the available space of their interest prior to arriving at the ARC.

The new renovations gives the ARC new perks to boast of, including new office spaces; new meeting areas for students and staff; a new equipment room for Cannoneer student-athletes; a new hardwood portable suspension system for basketball and volleyball play; a revamped fitness center with new flooring and equipment; new portable tennis and volleyball net systems for easy play; new basketball hoops for additional court access; and newly lined courts for an improved multi-use experience.

Other perks to be aware of upon the ARC's opening is the addition of a new in-house personal trainer to meet the needs of programming, session, and fitness aid for students and patrons; new dynamic and convenient group fitness courses; and a new intramural basketball league for everyone within the Pratt Community.

"Over the last several years, it has been our goal to make the ARC a true multipurpose facility and a place on campus that all of our students, staff and community members can utilize to improve their overall health and well being", said Director of Athletics and Recreation, Walter Rickard.

"This summer's renovations continues to move us to that goal. I want to thank the Pratt Administration for their support on this project, and I also want to thank Devin Roban, Associate Director for Recreation and Facilities, for working with our Facilities Department on the day to day planning of the project."

The new facility upgrades are completed just in time as the Pratt Institute Cannoneers move into NCAA competition beginning September 1st; and as Pratt REC embarks on it's new vision for wellness exploration within the Pratt community, starting with New Student Orientation beginning August 18th.

How can I stay connected to the ARC and its availability going forward?

As noted in the past, we cannot stress enough the importance for all members to be aware of the calendars that communicate available areas of the ARC going forward. This is imperative once the academic year begins and the ARC will have closures due to events, athletic contests, or emergencies - also especially important for partial closures (i.e. locker room closures for home Cannoneer contests).

Also, be sure to stay connected by following us on Twitter and Instagram for the quickest updates, and of course, updates on future plans for the ARC - @PrattRecWell

When will the clock resume on my ARC membership?

All memberships will be unfrozen and will once again become active starting September 1st. Due to your patience through this renovation period, we will give free access to all active members for the remaining month of August. Four months (dating back to May 1st) will be added to ALL current memberships.

Those with no memberships will need to renew or acquire a new membership before being eligible for entrance to the facility.
