NEWARK, N.J. — The Pratt Institute men's cross country team finished ninth out of 11 scoring teams at the NJIT XC Invitational Open 8K, led by Liam Reilly (East Setauket, N.Y.) in 32:03.6 for 56th overall.
Pratt's front two were nearly stride for stride. Jackson Brock (Vicenza, Italy) followed in 32:05.5 for 57th, and fellow first-year Mingyi Chen (Short Hills, N.J.) crossed in 33:00.3 for 70th as the top trio came through within 57 seconds.
The Cannoneers closed with William Stewart (Stuttgart, Germany) in 39:34.3 for 107th and Davyen Garrett (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) in 46:10.0 for 121st. The gold-and-black finished ahead of Rutgers-Newark and St. Elizabeth and recorded a 3:02:53 total time for the scoring five.
Opponents set a brisk pace up front. Unattached runner John Ray won in 25:18.0, Greater Pascack Track Club's Jason Mercado was second in 25:33.3, and Delaware TC captured the team title.
Pratt returns to racing on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Border Battle hosted by Rowan University.
