BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute men's cross country team defeated neighborhood foes St. Joseph's (Brooklyn), 26-29, to win the Battle for Clinton Hill on Tuesday morning at Prospect Park.
Junior Liam Reilly (East Setauket, N.Y.) took the individual title in 15:08 over 4,150 meters, setting the tone with a decisive move up front. First-year Jackson Brock (Vicenza, Italy) gave the Cannoneers a 1-2 punch, crossing second in 15:42.
The gold-and-black clinched it with first-year Mingyi Chen (Short Hills, N.J.) placing sixth in 17:12, and sophomore William Stewart (Stuttgart, Germany) in seventh in 18:30 to lock in the team win. First-year Jarius Taylor rounded out Pratt's scoring in 10th at 33:50.
St. Joseph's kept the race tight with a strong middle pack. Ganilo Quintos was third in 15:54, followed by Guillermo Victorio in fourth at 16:40 and Gabriel Lopez in fifth at 17:10.
Pratt's balanced finish made the difference in the final tally, with the Cannoneers taking four of the top seven places to secure the local rivalry.
