BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute men's cross country team dropped a pair of dual decisions at the Prospect Park Showdown on Wednesday morning, falling 23-36 to Medgar Evers College and 19-36 to St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn on the 4-kilometer course in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Sophomore Jackson Brock (Vicenza, Italy) led the gold-and-black with a fourth-place finish in 16:05.17. Brock battled down the final straightaway, finishing just two-tenths of a second behind St. Joseph's Jon-Marcus Diaz (16:04.93) out in third. Brandon Walker of Medgar Evers took first place in 14:58.41.
First-year Peter Burnham (Duxbury, Mass.) earned a top-10 finish for Pratt, clocking in at 17:53.27 for ninth place. First-year Kwan Huang (Shenzhen, China) took 11th in 17:57.50, while fifth-year Aarav Shroff (Mumbai, India) finished 19th in 23:23.36 and sophomore Wyatt Myers (San Francisco, Calif.) crossed in 20th at 23:30.03.
In the women's 4K race, first-year Merin Kauffman crossed led all competitors across the line in 17:53.86. Sophomore Melis Kavlicoglu (Reno, Nev.) secured the runner-up spot in 18:07.56 to complete a 1-2 finish at the front of the field. Brianna Lindo was the top finisher for Medgar Evers, placing third in 18:50.20.
First-year Robin Perles (Pottstown, Pa.) took sixth place for the Cannoneers in 26:45.76. Senior Cici Liu (Calabasas, Calif.) placed eighth in 28:07.04, followed directly by sophomore Milla Tenenblat (Hillsborough, Calif.) in ninth at 28:07.61.
Pratt travels to Stony Brook, N.Y., on Saturday, Sept. 26, to compete in the Golden Eagle Invitational hosted by St. Joseph's University-Long Island at Stony Brook University. The meet is set to start at 12 p.m.
