Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season at The Big Hurt Invite

JAMAICA, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute men's and women's track and field teams opened their outdoor campaign Saturday at The Big Hurt, hosted by St. John's University, showcasing several strong performances to begin their spring championship season.

Transfer Kaeden Green had a notable Cannoneer debut, placing fourth in the women's long jump with a best leap of 5.10 meters. Green added another top-five finish, placing fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.70 meters.

Jordana Halpern led the women's throwers with a toss of 9.31 meters in the shot put for sixth with Hannah Kim finishing two places behind her, throwing 8.99 meters.

On the women's track, Brooke Schreffler placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 19.06 seconds with Kayla Galvan collecting sixth in 22.50. Galvan also posted a personal-best 30.07 in the 200 meter. Kate Nolan placed ninth in the 100 meters, finishing with a solid time of 13.51 seconds, closely followed by Siena Sujitno in 11th (13.60).

Other notable performances included Sarah Cawley in the 800 meters, placing ninth in 2:47.49, while Reeshane Villarama led Pratt in the 1500 meters, placing 12th overall in 5:59.65. Giovanna Lisa posted a time of 9:03.25 in the 2000-meter steeplechase, running unopposed.

The Pratt women's 4x100 relay team, comprised of Sujitno, Galvan, Green, and Nolan, clocked a winning time of 52.90 seconds.

For the men's team, junior Chris DeGaetano led the way, setting a pair of personal bests, earning ninth place in the men's 400 meters with a time of 57.23 seconds. He was Pratt's top finisher in the men's 200 meters as well, placing 23rd in 25.16.

William Stewart offered support with a 25th-place performance in the men's 200 meters, timing 25.78 seconds, and placed tenth in the 400 meters in 58.59 seconds. Anthony Cowell finished closely behind Stewart, claiming 11th place in 58.80 seconds.

In distance events, Justin Cai paced the men's team in the 3,000 meters, finishing fifth with a time of 10:50.22, while Andrew Weiss completed the men's 1500 meters in 14th position (5:25.89).

Pratt continues their outdoor campaign hosts their home invitational next Saturday, April 5 at Queens College.
