STONY BROOK, N.Y. — On a bright and sunny day, recent graduate student Coralie Norenberg, soared above the competition crossing the finish line first at the Golden Eagle Invitational, hosted by St. Joseph's University (Long Island). The 5-kilometer race featured 85 total runners from 12 teams, which included regional NCAA Division II & III teams and junior college squads.
In her Cannoneer debut, Norenberg displayed a strong performance, leading wire-to-wire and winning the race by 32 seconds with a final time of 19:04.70. She was the lone Division III finisher in the top nine and over two minutes faster than the next D3 harrier in 10th place. Her low-stick posting was further backed by her teammates with solid performances, as the women scored 100 total points to finish 4th overall in the team standings, only nine points away from securing 2nd place as a team and surrounded by only Division II teams in the top seven.
First-year Melis Kavlicoglu had a great collegiate debut, as she came out strong and held her positioning the rest of the way, securing 13th overall with a time of 21:51.20, the fourth DIII runner across the line. Giovanna Lisa provided senior leadership as she turned in a gutsy performance to cross the line 24th overall with a time of 22:52.10. Junior Finn Powell settled in after a blazing start to finish confidently with a time of 23:53.40. And not to be outdone, senior Kathleen Chen charged the last 400 meters of the race to finish strongly with a time of 24:55.10.
After a weekend off from racing, Pratt returns to action at the Queensborough Community College Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park on September 28.
