BRONX, N.Y. — Pratt Institute graduate student Coralie Norenberg (Albuquerque, N.M.) captured the individual crown and led four Cannoneers under 25 minutes as the women's cross country team secured a strong second-place finish at the Queensborough Invitational on a hot and humid Sunday at Van Cortlandt Park.
Norenberg had a repeat performance of the season opener two weeks ago, controlling the race from the very start and extending her lead through the hills section of the course. She finished comfortably ahead of the pack with a 38-second cushion over the next runner to cross the finish line, clocking a time of 21:07.5 over the 5,000-meter course.
In a solid follow-up to her collegiate debut, Melis Kavlicoglu (Reno, Nev.) performed well as she earned her first top-five finish in 5th (22:35.0) while providing an additional low-scoring position to the team total. Senior Giovanna Lisa (Reading, Pa.) was the third harrier to cross the line, placing 22nd overall (24:04.9). Junior Finn Powell (Broadlands, Va.) followed in and senior Kathleen Chen (Livingston, N.J.) rounded out the scoring five, placing 46th (26:35.1) and 52nd (27:13.6), respectively.
Pratt compiled a team score of 117 points and was the top Division III squad, just three points behind Monroe University, an NJCAA Division I team. NCAA Division II Felician University followed in third with 123 points.
The Cannoneers returns to racing at the Interregional Border Battle hosted by Rowan University on Saturday, October 18 hosted by Rowan University.
