IMMACULATA, Pa. — The Pratt Institute men's tennis team secured its fifth consecutive victory with a 4-3 road win over Immaculata University on Saturday morning, improving to 2-0 in Atlantic East Conference play.
The Cannoneers (6-2, 2-0 AEC) swept the doubles flights to grab the crucial opening point. Wyatt Myers (San Francisco, Calif.) and Zuhayr Abdulla (San Antonio, Texas) cruised to a 6-0 shutout at No. 2. Nathan Park (Seoul, South Korea) and Brian Duval (Glen Gardner, N.J.) followed with a 6-3 win at No. 3, while Mikah Liu (Austin, Texas) and Caleb Callahan (New York, N.Y.) capped the sweep with a 6-4 decision at No. 1.
Pratt relied on commanding performances in singles to clinch the match, taking three flights in straight sets. At the top of the lineup, Liu continued his strong spring with a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 1. Myers delivered a flawless 6-0, 6-0 performance at No. 4, and Callahan yielded just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 5 that clinched the overall victory with two matches unfinished.
Immaculata (1-11, 0-2 AEC) fought back to take three singles matches and closed the gap after trailing 4-1. Park won his opening set at No. 2 before dropping a tight three-set battle, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. The hosts also claimed straight-set decisions at the No. 3 and No. 6 flights.
Pratt returns to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center for its spring home opener on Thursday, April 2, hosting Marywood in an Atlantic East clash starting at 4 p.m.
