IMMACULATA, Pa. — The Pratt Institute women's tennis team kept its perfect season alive with a 7-0 sweep of Immaculata University on Saturday morning at the IU Tennis Courts.
The Cannoneers (7-0, 2-0 AEC) controlled the match from the opening serve, securing the doubles point to take an early advantage. The top tandem of junior Pallavi Verghese (Fayetteville, Ark.) and senior Srishti Agarwal (Gurugram, India) handled business quickly with a 6-1 victory at No. 1.
First-year student-athletes Judith Song (Sharon, Mass.) and Olivia Tao (Ann Arbor, Mich.) clinched the team doubles point, partnering for a 6-3 result at the No. 2 slot. Junior Satoka Shibasaki (Tokyo, Japan) and first-year Quinn Steinman (Greendale, Wis.) completed the doubles sweep with a hard-fought 6-4 win at No. 3.
Pratt's momentum translated seamlessly into singles play. Agarwal was the first to finish, blanking her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Verghese followed shortly after, delivering a 6-3, 6-1 win at the top flight to put the black-and-gold on the brink of victory.
Song provided the clinching point at No. 3 singles, securing a 6-3, 6-0 triumph. Shibasaki mirrored Agarwal's early effort by posting a flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 4 spot, while Tao surrendered just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5.
Steinman wrapped up the sweep for the visitors at No. 6. After battling through a tight opening set, the first-year cruised through the finish line for a 7-5, 6-0 victory.
Pratt will look to extend its seven-match winning streak when it hosts Marywood University for its home spring opener on Thursday, April 2 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center starting at 4 p.m.
