FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Peter Burnham (Duxbury, Mass.) and Aditya Shivkumar (Bombay, India) both scored victories in singles, but the Pratt Institute men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 road decision to Farmingdale State College on Saturday afternoon.
Pratt (0-2) fell behind early after Farmingdale State swept all three doubles matches by a matching 6-2 margin to take the doubles point and went on to take four of the six singles points.Â
First-year Burnham earned Pratt's first point of the day at No. 1 singles, coming back after dropping the opening set to defeat his opponent 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) in a third-set match tiebreak for his first collegiate singles win.
Senior Shivkumar collected Pratt's other singles victory at the No. 6 position, earning a 6-2, 7-6 (4) straight-set win to remain unbeaten in singles this season.
Pratt will return to the courts at the ITA Regionals hosted by Skidmore College starting on Friday, September 25.
