HADDONFIELD, N.J. — The Atlantic East Conference announced its weekly awards Monday, with the Pratt Institute women's volleyball team sweeping both individual accolades. Senior Colleen Russell was named the league's Player of the Week, while first-year Emma Hwang was selected as the Specialty Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 14-20.
Russell earned Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week, while Hwang collected her first Specialty Player of the Week award after landing on the conference's weekly honor roll on last week. Together, the pair guided the Cannoneers to a 3-1 record on the week, extending a three-match winning streak and moving Pratt (4-3) over .500 for the first time since 2023.
Russell (Asbury, N.J.) led the attack across the four-match stretch, compiling 50 kills on a .197 hitting percentage, 23 digs, 10 total blocks (three solo, seven assisted), and five service aces over 16 sets. After posting four kills and two solo blocks at St. Joseph's University, Brooklyn on Monday, the senior middle hitter recorded 18 kills and 10 digs in Thursday's five-set win over the University of Mount Saint Vincent. On Saturday, Russell established a career high with 20 kills, adding 12 digs and six block assists in a five-set comeback victory over SUNY Maritime College, before finishing the weekend with eight kills on .400 hitting in a straight-set sweep of York College.
Hwang (Dallas, Texas) orchestrated the Pratt offense to 12.86 kills per set on the week, collecting 75 assists, 22 digs, 19 kills, and 12 service aces across 14 sets. After tallying five assists and four kills at St. Joseph's Brooklyn, the first-year setter collected 22 assists, nine kills, seven digs, and six aces in Thursday's five-set victory against Mount Saint Vincent. On Saturday, Hwang logged a double-double with 43 assists, 14 digs, five kills, and five aces in the five-set victory over Maritime, then contributed five assists and an ace in one set of action during the sweep of York.
Pratt opens another four-match week and puts its three-match streak on the line traveling to Kings Point, N.Y. to face the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Tuesday, September 22 at 7 p.m.
