BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Head Coach
Louis Sepulveda and the women's volleyball program announced the commitment of five student-athletes for the 2019-20 season.
The incoming class features student-athletes from all around the country, including New Mexico, Florida and Puerto Rico.
Sepulveda is eager for the newcomers to hit the ground running and expects them to compete for playing time this season. "I fully expect the incoming class to make an impact and compete for playing time at the start of the season. They will push out current roster to the top of their game and I am excited for the talent we have."
The 2019 Recruiting class:
Paola Beniquez, 5'7 Outside Hitter, Puerto Rico (Queensborough Community College)
Beniquez comes to Pratt as a junior after spending two seasons at Queensborough Community College. While at Queensborough, Beniquez shattered school records, becoming the all-time aces, kills and digs leader in program history. She was named the 2017 and 2018 CUNYAC and Region XV Player of the Year and the first ever Queensborough women's volleyball player to be named an NJCAA First Team All-American in 2018 while earning Third Team All-American honors in 2017. She will major in art and design at Pratt.
"Paola is an outstanding volleyball player with great body control and a tremendous swing", stated Sepulveda. "We are thrilled to bring in the caliber of talent that Paola has and I am eager to see her make an impact from day one."
Rose Moon, 5'9 Outside Hitter, Santa Fe, New Mexico (Santa Fe Waldorf)
Moon joins the Cannoneers after a stellar career at Santa Fe Waldorf High School in New Mexico. Throughout her high school career, Moon was named First Team All-Conference, Player of the Year and an All-Star. Moon will be majoring in industrial design at Pratt.
"Rose was one of my top recruits this season and is a six-rotation hitter with great range", said Sepulveda. "She played against Division I competition at the club level and excelled every time I saw her. Her game exhibits no fear and she makes us formidable against anyone"
Elizabeth Hannah, 6'2 Middle Blocker, Tampa, Florida (Academy at the Lakes)
Hannah comes to Brooklyn from Tampa, Florida where she earned a spot on the PHSC Senior All-Star Team. Hannah also played on the Orlando Tampa Volleyball Academy, one of the top club teams in Florida. She will be majoring in painting at Pratt.
"Elizabeth brings a ton of experience to the program along with excellent blocking skills that will be a force in the middle," stated Sepulveda. "She will also contribute on the offensive side with a wide array of shots in her arsenal."
Deanna Colondona, 5'7 Outside Hitter/Defensive Specialist, Manorville, New York (Eastport South Manor)
Colondona stays in state as she joins Pratt from Manorville, New York. Colondona was a four-year member of the volleyball team at Eastport South Manor. She will be majoring in interior design at Pratt.
"Deanna is explosive on the outside, has a great serve and plays excellent defense," said Sepulveda. "She will be a great addition to the program in many different ways as she has a very good vertical and is quick to the pins."
Amy Jia, 5'7 Setter/Defensive Specialist, Farmington, MA (Farmington)
Jia comes to Pratt from Farmington, Massachusetts where she was a four-year member of the volleyball team at Farmington High School.
"Amy is very experienced and will add depth to our squad with versatility", stated Sepulveda.
