Box Score PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Pratt Institute men's tennis team notched a 9-0 victory over St. Joseph's University (L.I.) on the road on Tuesday evening at the SJNY Outdoor Field Complex. Pratt (4-1) wins their third straight match to open the spring season.
Mehul Bhargava and Ryan Nelsen combined for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles. Caleb Callahan joined Brian Duval for an 8-3 triumph in the No. 2 match and Cole Rudy and Matthew Stachura won by the same score at No. 3.
In singles, Bhargava outlasted his opponent in the top singles match, 6-4, 6-7 (3), 1-0 (7). Named Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week yesterday, Nelsen cruised in the second flight, dropping just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory to remain undefeated in singles on the season.
Callahan posted a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles. Rudy was battled in a close a first-set tiebreaker in the No. 4 match before taking the second set at love, 7-6 (6), 6-0.
Johnny Xie was pushed to a third set supertiebreaker at No. 5 but walked away with a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (2) victory. Stachura coasted in his No. 6 match in a 6-0, 6-0 triumph.
Pratt will look to avenge their lone loss of the season in the fall traveling to borough rivals Brooklyn College on Friday, March 31 for a 3 p.m. match.
