Men’s Tennis Collects Three Wins in Season Opener at ITA Regional Championship

The Cannoneers opened their season in their first ITA regionals.

MADISON, N.J. – First-year Calder Tillinghast picked up a pair of wins and senior Ryan Nelsen also picked up victory as the Pratt Institute men's tennis team opened their 2023-24 campaign competing in their first Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championship at Drew University over the weekend. 

In the round-robin singles C draw, Tillinghast finished 2-2 overall defeating Ramapo's Nate Cooper, 7-6, and Julian Baretto, 6-4. Nelsen finished 1-3 defeating Jaden Andressen, 6-1.

Senior Mehul Bhargava and first-year Mikah Liu represented Pratt in the main draws. Liu fell 8-5 to Juan Mendoza of Baruch, 8-5, while Bhargava fell to Derek Jordan of The College of New Jersey, 8-1, in first-round matchups. The duo dropped an 8-3 decision to Krish Vennam and Josh Chu of the University of Rochester.

The Cannoneers return to the courts on Saturday, October 7 in a joint dual with the women against Bard College at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center starting at 12 p.m.
