FLUSHING, N.Y. — Powered by strong performances across the lineup, the Pratt Institute men's tennis team secured a comprehensive 6–1 home victory over Rutgers University–Camden on Sunday afternoon at the USTA National Tennis Center.
The Cannoneers improved to 2–2 on the season with a near sweep of both doubles and singles play. Pratt picked up the doubles point after winning all three pairs matches, then took five of six singles matches in commanding fashion.
The match began with a sweep in doubles, as Mikah Liu (Austin, Texas) and Caleb Callahan (New York, N.Y.) teamed up for a 6–3 win at the No. 1 position. Eagle Zhang (Beijing, China) and Zuhayr Abdulla (San Antonio, Texas) followed with a clutch 7–6 (7–3) win at No. 2, while the No. 3 pairing earned the win by default, securing the overall doubles point.
Pratt then carried the momentum into singles action, claiming five of six matches. Wyatt Myers (San Francisco, Calif.) and Zhang both rolled through their matches at No. 5 and No. 3 respectively, each winning in straight sets without conceding a game. Nathan Park (Seoul, South Korea) battled back after dropping his opening set for a 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) win in a super tiebreaker third set at No. 2.
Capping the match at No. 1 singles, Liu overcame a first-set tiebreak to earn a 7–6 (8–6), 6–2 win to complete Pratt's impressive performance.
Back at level .500, Pratt hosts Baruch next Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at the USTA National Tennis Center.
