BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute women's basketball team returned to the court for the first time since canceling the 2024-25 season and, in Carlos Acevedo's head-coaching debut, dropped a 94-46 decision to Hunter College in a spirited effort at home on Saturday at the Activity Resource Center.
Pratt (0-1) trailed 22-14 after the first quarter but made a push in the second. The Cannoneers trimmed the deficit to eight, 35-27, on a Kylie Grant (Dallas, Texas) jumper with 4:28 left before halftime. Hunter (1-0) answered with a 12-2 close to the period, capped by a Gianna Henriques tip-in at the horn for a 47-29 lead.
Grant paced the Cannoneers with 18 points, six rebounds and two steals. First-year forward Lola Mactavish (Sydney, Australia) added eight points and three assists, and graduate guard Miga Higa (Torrance, Calif.) chipped in seven off the bench. Sophomore forward Anabela Jakelic (Zagreb, Croatia) and junior forward Emily Carlson (Utica, N.Y.) each pulled down 11 rebounds as Pratt collected 41 boards.
Key early moments included Higa's and-1 midway through the first quarter and a Mactavish fast-break layup that helped Pratt keep contact. The Cannoneers' best stretch came early in the second when Mactavish hit a 3 and Grant sank two free throws to make it 30-23 with 6:12 left, but Hunter's defensive pressure forced turnovers that swung momentum. The visitors turned 31 Pratt giveaways into 39 points.
Hunter (1-0) was led by Alexa Charles' 37-point, 13-steal and 10-rebound triple-double, while Henriques totaled 21 points and 15 boards. Mia Fuller added eight points and 10 assists.
Pratt hosts York on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. at the ARC.
