SCRANTON, Pa. — The Pratt Institute men's tennis team finished its regular season with a dominant 7-0 sweep of Marywood University in Atlantic East Conference action Thursday afternoon. With the victory, the Cannoneers clinched the No. 2 seed for the 2025 Atlantic East Conference Championship.
Pratt took early control of the match by claiming all three doubles matchups. Justin Urbi and Mikah Liu teamed up at No. 1 doubles for a decisive 6-1 win. Calder Tillinghast and John Cherry matched that performance at No. 2 doubles, also winning 6-1, while Nathan Park and Johnny Xie secured another 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Pratt took all six flights in straight sets. Urbi anchored the team at the No. 1 position with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 victory. Reigning Player of the Week Liu followed suit at No. 2 singles, winning easily 6-1, 6-1 and maintaining his unblemished record in the Spring. Park earned a hard-fought win at No. 3 singles, prevailing 6-7 (3), 6-3, 1-0 (10-2), while Cherry made quick work of his opponent at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 5 singles, Tillinghast posted a 6-2, 6-1 win, and Shrenik Mahaveer completed the sweep at sixth singles with a solid 6-1, 6-4 result.
With the victory, their third in a row, Pratt improved to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Cannoneers will face No. 3-seeded Neumann University in the Atlantic East Conference divisional semifinals on Friday, August 25.
