FLUSHING, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute men's tennis team secured its first win of the season with a 4-3 victory over Bard College on Sunday afternoon in their home opener at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Behind strong performances in both singles and doubles play, the Cannoneers evened their record at 1-1 on the year.
In doubles action, Pratt swept all three matches to claim the opening point. The No. 1 pair of Mikah Liu and Caleb Callahan led the way with a 6-2 win, while Calder Tillinghast and Zuhayr Abdulla edged their opponents in a tense tiebreaker at No. 2, 7-6 (5). At No. 3 doubles, Nathan Park and Wyatt Myers delivered a convincing 6-1 result to complete the sweep.
Liu continued his impressive outing in singles, cruising to a 6-0, 6-3 win at the top spot. Callahan followed with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles, and Myers added a 6-0, 6-3 decision at No. 5 to tally Pratt's remaining points.
Pratt returns to action on Saturday, September 27, with a road match against Drew University in Madison, N.J. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m.
