Women's Basketball Rallies Late in Home Setback to Neumann

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Anabela Jakelic (Zagreb, Croatia) and Kylie Grant (Dallas, Texas) both scored 16 points, but the Pratt Institute women's basketball team fell to Neumann University, 53-36, in an Atlantic East Conference matchup on Wednesday evening at the Activity Resource Center.

Pratt (1-14, 0-7 Atlantic East) showed tremendous fight until the final buzzer, outscoring the visitors 16-5 in the fourth quarter, but could not overcome a deficit built by Neumann (5-13, 3-4 Atlantic East) in the first half.

The Knights used their defensive pressure to jump out to a 20-8 lead after the first quarter and extended the margin to 35-13 by halftime. Neumann maintained its advantage through the third, taking a 48-20 lead into the final frame.

The Cannoneers saved their best for last, winning the fourth quarter with a spirited effort. Jakelic and Grant combined to score all 16 of the team's points in the period as Pratt closed the game on a high note.

Jakelic recorded a monster double-double with 16 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, adding two steals and a block. Grant matched her with 16 points and fell one-rebound shy of a double-double with nine. Emily Carlson (Utica, N.Y.) was a force on the glass, pulling down 10 rebounds to go with two points and a block.

Neumann was paced by a double-double from Emily DuPont, who finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Bri Gautier and Hannah Cappelletti each contributed 10 points, while Jenna Aponik dished out a game-high eight assists and collected five steals.

Pratt will hit the road to face Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday, January 31. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
