ASTON, Pa. — The Pratt Institute men's tennis team opened its spring schedule and Atlantic East Conference play with a 6-1 road victory over Neumann University on Saturday afternoon at the ESCS Memorial Courts.
The Cannoneers (4-2, 1-0 Atlantic East) secured the opening doubles point by taking two of the three flights. Mikah Liu (Austin, Texas) and Caleb Callahan (New York, N.Y.) earned a 6-3 win at No. 1. After Neumann took the No. 2 match, Nathan Park (Seoul, South Korea) and Aditya Shivkumar (Bombay, India) clinched the point with a 6-4 victory at No. 3.
Pratt carried the momentum into singles play, winning five of the six bouts to seal the conference victory. Liu cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 1, while Park mirrored the success with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at No. 2. Shivkumar secured a 6-4, 6-2 straight-set win at No. 3 for his first collegiate singles win.
Wyatt Myers (San Francisco, Calif.) controlled his matchup at No. 4, yielding just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 decision. Davyen Garrett (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) capped off the Cannoneers' scoring with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 6.
Neumann (4-3, 0-1 AEC) picked up its lone point at No. 5 singles, where Logan Gorbitz rallied from a set down to edge Callahan in a third-set super-tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7).
The Cannoneers have now won three consecutive matches dating back to the fall season. Pratt returns to the courts for another Atlantic East matchup on Saturday, March 28, visiting Immaculata University at 9 a.m.
