Men’s Tennis Rallies Past Sarah Lawrence For Fourth Straight Win

QUEENS, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute men's tennis team extended its winning streak to four matches with a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Sarah Lawrence on Wednesday night at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

The Cannoneers (5-2) fell behind early after Sarah Lawrence claimed the opening doubles point by taking two of the three flights. The pairing of Wyatt Myers (San Francisco, Calif.) and Calder Tillinghast (Seattle, Wash.) secured Pratt's lone doubles win with a 6-4 result at No. 3.

Pratt responded to the deficit with a strong showing in singles play, capturing four of the six flights to clinch the overall match. Mikah Liu (Austin, Texas) remained steady at No. 1 singles, posting a 6-1, 6-3 straight-set victory to put the first point up for the Cannoneers and Myers added another straightforward point for the Cannoneers at No. 5, defeating his opponent 6-2, 6-3.

The Gryphons (0-3) picked up wins in the No. 2 and No. 4 positions to pull back ahead 3-2. Eagle Zhang (Beijing, China) showed resilience at No. 2 singles, bouncing back from a first-set deficit to force a third set super-tiebreaker before narrowly falling in a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) decision.

The most competitive match of the evening unfolded at No. 3 singles, where Aditya Shivkumar (Bombay, India) earned a crucial point for Pratt. After splitting the first two sets, Shivkumar outlasted his opponent in a marathon super-tiebreaker to claim a 6-4, 6-7 (2), 1-0 (11-9) victory.

Caleb Callahan (New York, N.Y.) delivered a dominant performance at No. 6 to earn the clinching point, dropping just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 win.

Pratt will look to keep its winning streak alive when it returns to Atlantic East Conference action on Saturday, March 28, hitting the road to face Immaculata University at 9 a.m.
